Description

The Union Marine and Fire Insurance Company...insures...Mr. James Locke of Newburyport...fourteen hundred dollars on the Schooner Dolly and freight, equally, at and from Charleston to Madeira; and the same sum, half on vessel and half on board said Schooner at and from thence to her port of discharge in the United States with permission to proceed to the Isle of May or Bonavista or both for salt. The assured relinquishing the right to abandon in case of capture seizure or restraint until condemned or until ninety days after receipt of advice of such capture seizure or restraint and exempting the company from the payment of wages and provisions in case of detention for the sum of insured on Freight, whereof is master for this present voyage, Ebenezer Reynolds [on reverse] It is hereby agreed that the permission granted by the within written policy for said Schooner to go for salt shall be extended to any or all of the Cape Verde Islands instead of Isle of May or Bonavista as expressed in the policy. Newburyport June 24th 1809.
